Utilizing deep understanding of human perception, cognition, and decision-making, James designs user experience for enterprise level radiology applications. He leads a team of talented designers at GE Healthcare developing mobile and desktop interface design for clinicians and radiologists. Dr. Gualtieri seeks to improve joint human- algorithm diagnostic performance for modern patient-critical systems by creating robust and resilient applications, despite scale and complexity. Interested in exploring and developing artifacts users wield to understand and interact with the world, James champions user needs through scalable interface designs.
James has a Ph.D. in Applied Psychology from George Mason University, and nearly 25 years experience as a human factors engineer and user experience designer, developing innovative tools for the medical, defense, intelligence, and power generation industries, as well as other mission critical domains. He holds multiple patents in display design, has conducted extensive user research, and has over 50 publications in the areas of usability, cognitive systems engineering, mental models formation and measurement, team information processes, training, systems engineering, and system evaluation, guiding research design to develop 20 fielded systems.
