Different ways to use patient journeys mapping in healthcare
After a short introduction to patient journeys mapping and design thinking you will experiment with creating a patient journey with our patient journey card deck. By using persona’s participants will step into the perspective of patients and create a patient journey map in break-out session. The physical patient journey cards is your freebee to take home after the workshop. Do you want a preview? The pdf is available online.

Designing for patient-centricity
In many industries, end-user centricity has been at the centre of attention for a long time, yet the healthcare industry has been somewhat lagging behind. Yet, today’s patients are increasingly striving for self-control in their lives; they want to be empowered – in relation to their own health, and when they suffer from a disease. This is one of the reasons why the industry is keen to strengthen direct engagement with patients, and why some healthcare companies are on a steep learning curve to find out how they can do this in the best possible way. In this session, we will share insights from Manyone’s work in understanding patient empowerment, and how we use these insights to help companies move towards genuine patient-centricity.

Do no harm? Balancing the benefits and risks of UX research in healthcare
There are few areas more challenging and rewarding for UX designers and researchers than healthcare. Our work has the possibility to significantly improve the lives of our users by helping to solve some of their most difficult life challenges. We advocate for user centered design processes, but in healthcare, patient engagement brings a unique set of challenges. If we get things wrong, we can hurt the people we’re trying to help. We have a responsibility as designers and researchers to do no harm, and this talk will explore this idea.

Enabling and sustaining digital health in LMICs
Opportunities embodied in digital health have the potential to increase access to medical knowledge, but can they be sustained in LMICs? (Mitra, Posarac & Vick, 2013). The literacy that enables and sustains digital health in low- and middle-income countries will be presented based on concepts of; relevance, user engagement and change management.

Growing the research maturity at a healthcare start-up
Design deliverables aim to improve human lives in some way, and thus we continuously seek to deeply understand those that use our healthcare services/products to ensure we add value for them. User Research is key to grow this empathy that can then be used to create and adapt our healthcare products/services to meet their evolving needs and contexts. These research-driven solutions can become key drivers of successful business outcomes and therefore one may assume that user research would be engrained in the development of every healthcare product/service, but this is not always the case. As many User Researchers and UX designers know, it can be a constant battle to push for patient-centricity and get buy-in from stakeholders for user research. Join me as I share the challenges faced and lessons learnt along the way growing the research maturity within our organization.

Design Your Life: Empowering the Neurodiverse with User-Initiated Design
UX designers mostly make products that have to be suitable for many people. Maybe even for everyone: one-size-fits-all. But not everyone is the same. What if you could put design tools in the hands of the users themselves? With those tools, they can create their own personal products: one-size-fits-one. In this presentation, I will show the developments of our research project in which we are developing a design toolkit that will enable autistic young adults and their caregivers to create technological solutions themselves.

Conversational AI for the support of clients, caregivers and health professionals
Technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics are leading the way for tomorrow's healthcare. Conversational AI is one of the technologies that in the future will make the lives of clients, caregivers and healthcare workers easier. It is based on natural language processing and enables written or spoken interaction between humans and machines. This way, it can provide daily assistance to users. Especially in times when the labour market is shrinking and the demand for care is exploding, this may help to provide a solution. Let’s discover the opportunities.

Three different ways to use patient journey mapping
In what different ways can you use patient journey mapping? The best client cases that have been practiced by Patient Journey Lab will be explained to you. These three different cases will make clear how powerful patient journey mapping can be. And how different possibilities will come to life. The cases are from: 1) the municipalities of Alphen and Leiden, where patient journey mapping was used to improve the experience of inhabitants with dementia, 2) Santeon hospitals, where the journey of breast cancer patients was used to create innovative solutions for shared decision making, and 3) Catharina Cancer institute, where the redesigned entrance was inspired by mapping patient journeys.
